On behalf of the Rotary Club of West Springfield, I would like to thank you for your offers of assistance, concern and support during these past few days.

As most of you already know, parts of Western Massachusetts were affected by the recent tornados that ripped through the area last Wednesday, June 1st.

Areas of West Springfield were hit pretty hard and 2 people lost their lives.

While you may have seen the photos or the videos, I can tell you that actually seeing the damage is over whelming.  To watch families, search through, what was once their home, trying to find pieces of their lives, is something that will stay with me for many years to come.
Volunteers are working hard to help with the clean-up efforts but funding is what is needed to help these families get their lives back on track.

Next Thursday (June 9th) will kick-off the 2011 West Side's Taste of the Valley.   This is our Club’s biggest fundraiser.  Apart from a diverse selection of food choices from local vendors; the weekend is also highlighted by family friendly entertainment and activities.

The Taste is well known for its ongoing live musical entertainment, featuring local acts performing a wide variety of styles. We also have a midway of rides and games for kids & teens, animal rides and a petting zoo.

I am very happy to announce that the Rotary Club of West Springfield has made the decision to donate 100% of this year’s proceeds to aid the victims of the tornados, not only in West Springfield, but where needed in the region.

I am hoping that you will join us this weekend to show your support.  If you cannot attend but would like to make a donation, please make your checks payable to the West Springfield Rotary Foundation.  Our address is P O Box 66, West Springfield, MA  01089-0066.  In the memo section of your check, please note:  Relief Fund.

When Rotarians began pooling their resources and contributing their talents to help serve communities in need, all things are possible.  This goes hand in hand with Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self".

If you have any questions; please do not hesitate to contact me at (413) 626-6423 or via e-mail.
