The West Hartford Rotary Club has been informed that its application to The Rotary Foundation for a Global Grant to provide a visual media studio for the American School for the Deaf, in West Hartford, has been approved.

The West Hartford Rotary partnered with the Rotary Club of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, and our respective Districts, 7890 and 7020, to fund this grant.  The Rotary Foundation matched Club and District contributions to bring the total grant amount to $33,000. This substantial sum will make possible the purchase of studio equipment, wiring and curriculum materials, and cover professional staff development expenses.

Visual learning is a key component of teaching hearing impaired students, and the visual media studio will open new avenues of education to this population.  The facility will also provide practical training that students can use later upon entering the work force.  Work will begin soon.

"All funds for this important grant came from Rotarians," said Don Chandler of the West Hartford Rotary Club.  "This is a powerful demonstration of how our donations, including our generosity to The Rotary Foundation, can ultimately enable positive change right here at home," he said.
