The Springfield Rotary Club is partnering with the Basketball Hall of Fame with the return of the Tip-Off Classic to Springfield November 20-22, 2010. A luncheon kicks off the 3 day invitational on Friday, November 19th on the Museum's Center Court. The luncheon will feature awards presented by the Springfield Rotary Club and the Basketball Hall of Fame to two individuals who exemplify the Rotary motto "Service Above Self".  This year's local honoree is Dan Roulier, a native of Springfield,and the national honoree, Hall of Fame member Bob Lanier. 
 
Dan has been the recipient of many awards for his outstanding service to the community

-  William Pynchon Award from the Advertising Club of Western Mass.
-  Outstanding Philanthropist Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals
-  Saint Francis Award from Cathedral High School
-  2001 Distinguished Alumni Award from STCC
-  Paul Harris Fellowship Award and the Maurice Parker Random Acts of Kindness
   Award from the Somers Rotary Club
- Special Recognition Award from the State of Connecticut
- Special Recognition Award from the Network Against Domestic Abuse

Lanier was with the NBA for 14 seasons and was an 8-time All-Star. He was enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992.
 
After his NBA career was over, Lanier chaired the NBA's "Stay In School" program; "NBA Teamup" program and the League's "Read To Achieve" initiative. From 2005 – to the present day, Lanier has served as Special Assistant to the NBA Commissioner, earning numerous awards for his tireless efforts in the community.
