The many good works that our clubs are carrying out globally and right here at home continually remind us of the meaning behind our motto: “Service Above Self.”  One case-in-point is the Danielson Rotary Club’s AMBER Alert project.
 
For some time now, Danielson Rotarians have been registering children from their town and neighboring communities into the national AMBER Alert database.
 
Many of us have heard that AMBER Alert’s goal is to instantly galvanize an entire community – or even the entire country – whenever a child is lost or abducted, in order to maximize the chances of a swift and safe recovery.  The program was launched in the United States in 1996, and was named for 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was abducted and murdered in Texas in 1996.

In Connecticut, the Danielson Rotary is among the key implementers of this essential national project.  They are regularly out in the field, holding registration events where they distribute brochures and explain the AMBER Alert program to parents.  Perhaps even more importantly, they weigh and measure children, and enter each child’s name and identifying information into the national AMBER database.  Without this the core information that allows many abduction stories to have a happy ending, the program could not function.
 
In short, the Danielson Rotary is making our District safer for all kids and better for all families, and making Rotarians everywhere proud.
